About

My name is YaWei. I am an artist living and working in Vancouver, Beautiful British Columbia. Upon graduating from Emily Carr University I spent a year and a half in sunny California travelling and learning how to build an ark. My creative practice include drawing, illustration, photography and curating. I began my curatorial practice in 2011 with a specific interest in facilitating intellectually and practically accessible contemporary art experiences to general public. These art experiences are available to both artists and audiences regardless of their academic and socio-cultural background. I started in an open concept creative space called And The Upper Room (&TUR). &TUR welcomed and exhibited all levels of creativities with minimal academic or commercial criterions. I am currently working on research and development of a curatorial series called #wecanalldraw. The core concept of #wecanalldraw is to celebrate, preserve and value the sense of innocence and originality found in the creativity that has not been influenced by schooling and knowledge. My research relating to this series includes the perception of good and bad arts, art education for children and art preservation and value.
